About Nolita

With a formidable voice and charismatic stage presence, award-winning Nolita Golding has an impressive resume that includes a duet recording with Duran Duran's Simon LeBon and her work with producer Nataraj, resulting in a featured soundtrack on the film "From Justin to Kelly". One of her notable works has been the composition of songs for the feature film Mr Mayfair, in which Nolita appears in one of the scenes. She also won the award Premios Vida 2024 in NY, for “Tropical Music Newcomer from the UK”.

Nolita's career has spanned her early years in Tenerife, eight years as a session singer in Los Angeles, and she is currently on the London scene as a vocal recording and performing artist. With solo singles out, including an innovative cover of the Anita Baker song “Sweet Love” produced by Oscar Hernandez and her most recent release of her original composition Tú y Yo.

Nolita Golding was born in Coventry, England, and is of mixed Spanish, English, and Mexican (Mayan from Yucatán) heritage. Her first memories of music are singing by the piano with her grandmother ‘Goldie’, also an artist and a key figure who set her on the path of music. These formative beginnings prompted Nolita later in her career to use her grandmother's surname in her artist name, which she feels reflects her roots and mixed heritage.

At primary school, Nolita was quickly given lead parts in the choir, and then at age ten her family moved to a small fishing village in Tenerife. She was soon snapped up by the local groups, and at age 14 became known as the “Youngest Entertainer on the Island”.

But it was in 1998 that Nolita was hired as a backing vocalist for the 'Cuba es Música' tour, sharing the stage with Livam at the famous Son Latinos in Tenerife, where Nolita felt her Latin vein and fell in love. After coming of age, the young Nolita decided to spread her wings and moved to Los Angeles, California. She describes this period as vital in her early career, gaining experience as a session vocalist, singing soul/funk and salsa/cumbia in English & Spanish. Nolita remembers fondly her first break in the salsa world with the late bandleader, Angel Sabroso, who coached her and introduced her to the world of Latin music.

Otros trabajos en Los Ángeles incluyeron un dueto con Simon Le Bon de Duran Duran, vocalista del artista Richie Gajate-García, vocalista de la Orquesta Henry Mora y corista en el programa de televisión Premios Los Nuestro. Billy Paul (famoso por "Yo y la Sra. Jones") se acercó a ella en uno de sus conciertos y le dijo: "¡Eres una cantante de jazz!", refiriéndose a su versátil capacidad para improvisar.

Fue en Los Ángeles donde a Nolita le ofrecieron un contrato con Flow Productions, lo que dio lugar a una fructífera relación de trabajo con su productor Nataraj.

Entre sus actividades se incluye la interpretación de "Pull it Out", que formó parte de la banda sonora de la película "From Justin to Kelly". Tras ocho intensos años en Los Ángeles, Nolita regresó a las Islas Canarias para renovar energías y concentrarse en su familia. En 2012 se mudó a Londres, donde cursó estudios universitarios y, al mismo tiempo, desarrolló su carrera musical. Trabaja regularmente como compositora y se integró de inmediato a la escena latina, actuando con Roberto Pla como artista invitado al abrir la función "Our Latin Thing" en el Barbican Concert Halls en 2016. Su trabajo actual incluye su carrera como solista, donde presenta material propio en emblemáticos escenarios londinenses, y también está de gira como vocalista principal del ensamble de cumbia Makondo, liderado por el percusionista Rafael Sarmiento. También graba para sellos como Imagenes Recordings, donde se adentra en el género nu-disco con el productor Jorge Montiel. Sus próximos lanzamientos incluyen el lanzamiento de un sencillo con la Spanish Harlem Orchestra en Nueva York, producido por su líder, Oscar Hernández, cuatro veces ganador del Grammy.
